Income and wealth
Prosperity is created deliberately. It does not just happen
by chance. Nations deliberately come up with policies to put money in the hands
of citizens. The notion that the private sector drives the economy can be seen
to be true only when the government plays its part to drive the private sector.
Nations only develop when and only when there is consistent investment in
infrastructure. Yes. Roads, bridges, ports, power and industry. Investments in these
infrastructures will provide jobs to thousands of people thereby creating
prosperity.
Who will invest in the infrastructure? The government. Who will build/execute the projects? The private sector. Who will carry out the actual task in the execution of the project? The citizens. In this way, one bird is effectively killed with three stones; the government, the private sector and the masses all doing their part. The government initiates the project, mobilizes the private sector and receives taxes for its efforts. The private sector takes the funds and employs people to do the job and make some tidy profits on it. The masses are then gainfully employed and money is in their pocket. They then happily pay tax to the government in appreciation for the infrastructure. If only 50% of our budgets for the past 4 years is dedicated to infrastructure. Nigeria would have been a very prosperous place.
